The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is the statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, functioning under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. FSSAI regulates and supervises food safety to ensure the availability of safe, wholesome, and hygienic food for consumers.

FSSAI License / Registration

Any Food Business Operator (FBO) involved in manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, transportation, import, or sale of food products in India must obtain FSSAI Registration or License, depending on the scale and nature of operations:

Basic Registration – For small food businesses and petty manufacturers
State License – For medium-scale businesses operating within a state
Central License – Mandatory for large food businesses, importers, exporters, e-commerce food operators, and businesses operating in multiple states

The license is issued with a 14-digit FSSAI License Number, which must be displayed on food packages and business premises.

Compliance with Food Safety & Standards Regulations (hygiene, labeling, packaging, additives, contaminants, etc.)
